The School of Advanced Study brings together the specialised scholarship and resources of ten prestigious postgraduate research institutes to provide a unique and unmatched scholarly community in which to pursue postgraduate study and research. The School is the UK’s national centre for the facilitation and promotion of advanced study in the humanities, social sciences and law and supports an international network of researchers and research communities.

Postgraduate teaching and research training is an important component of the School’s work and students can take advantage of guidance from leading academic scholars and from the specialist expertise of its institutes. The School welcomes around 300 postgraduate students each year, enrolled on taught master’s and PhD programmes, and almost 40 per cent of its students are international, creating a stimulating environment for academic endeavour. As a specialised postgraduate institution, our students benefit from a friendly and supportive environment and the opportunity to participate and collaborate in the rich and diverse programme of events and research activities of the School.
