University of London Housing Services / Halls of Residence

University of London Housing Services consists of the Private Housing Unit (PHU) and the Property Management Unit (PMU).

The Private Sector Housing Unit provides the following:

  • A Landlord registration scheme and database of accommodation  offers.
  • An Accommodation Agency registration  scheme.
  • Housing presentations  to large groups of students throughout the year.
  • Contract checking . Before students sign a contract we can advise about the terms and conditions and what the potential pitfalls are. The contract check list that we have prepared can also assist. We also have our own suggested contracts that have been drawn up in conjunction with our solicitors.
  • Housing advice  for those experiencing problems. Legal advice service is supported by the retention of a firm of housing solicitors.
  • A programme of Landlord and Agency training.
  • A programme of training to staff working in the area of student housing.

The Property Management Unit (PMU) offers a selection of self-catering houses and flats, of various size ranging from one to seven bedroom properties, specifically for use as student accommodation. The PMU properties are made up of University of London owned, long leased and head-leased accommodation.

Head-leased properties are leased from private landlords, and then in turn let to students. This gives the student greater confidence as their landlord is the University. When available, PMU accommodation is advertised directly on the Private Housing Unit lists and website.
