Institute of Education

The Institute of Education is a world-renowned centre of excellence for higher degrees, research and consultancy in education; professional practice and the social sciences. It offers an unrivalled range of master’s courses, and is a highly respected provider of PGCE courses and training teachers.

The IOE achieved a 90% positive score in the National Student Survey for 2010, placing it 9th overall in the UK for student satisfaction. It has partnerships with around 600 schools, colleges and other education settings in Greater London and beyond.

Facilities

Situated at the heart of London’s historic Bloomsbury district, the Institute is surrounded by other colleges of the University of London. Its specialist teaching facilities include a first-class media centre and state of the art science laboratories in Science Learning Centre, London.

The Newsam Library houses Europe’s largest collection of books and periodicals on educational studies, with over 300,000 volumes. Up-to-date computing, audiovisual and reprographic facilities are available.

The main halls of residence, John Adams Hall is about 3 minutes walk from the Institute and provides 155 single and twin rooms, including some rooms for disabled students. Further accommodation is offered at Endsleigh Gardens, Gordon Square, and Woburn Square.

Students’ Union services include a cafeteria, shop and bar. A range of societies are organised by students and supported by the union; events include seminars, lectures, parties, concerts and free film screenings.
