St George’s, University of London is the UK’s only specialist medical and healthcare higher education institution.

To our students we offer programmes in biomedical science, healthcare science and medicine and through our partnership with Kingston University we offer programmes in midwifery, nursing, paramedic science, physiotherapy, radiography and social work. St George’s also offers a variety of Foundation and Postgraduate programmes. We have around 3,000 students.

St George’s has strong links with the healthcare profession, including a shared site with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust. Students benefit from being able to walk from lecture theatres and clinical teaching rooms to laboratories and hospital wards.

The St George’s student experience was voted the best of all London’s universities in the 2011 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.

St George’s has an international research reputation in fields including infection and immunity, heart disease and stroke, cell signalling, public health and epidemiology, clinical genetics, and social care sciences.

As an alumnus of St George’s, students follow in the footsteps of medical pioneers such as John Hunter, known as the father of modern surgery, and Edward Jenner, creator of the first vaccine, used to eradicate smallpox.

Facilities

The St George’s halls of residence are a short walk away from the university. There are 332 single bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, and each flat has its own kitchen and dining room. Students have access to common rooms with plasma TV screens and wireless internet access.

The university library has an extensive specialist medicine and health sciences collection. It offers study space, group discussion rooms, and computer resource rooms, as well as social working space.

The Student Centre is a one-stop shop for help and advice, with a counselling team, a strong personal tutor network and a full-time disabilities officer.

The Students’ Union offers a wide range of clubs and societies. Sport is played at all levels, with teams competing in a variety of leagues. The university has a sports centre on site.
