The Careers Group, University of London nominated for THE Award
‘Destinations Interactive’ website brings practical value to universities
The Careers Group, University of London
has been shortlisted for the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Outstanding ICT Initiative of the Year Award 2011 for its ‘Destinations Interactive’ website.
The site takes the raw statistical data produced by universities for the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey (DLHE) and turns it into a web-based tool that allows practical and meaningful analysis down to the course level.
The website allows participating universities to produce in-depth reports which correlate graduate behaviour with demographic factors like age, location and gender. Further information – like salary data, unemployment, performance indicator scores and geographical location – can also be swiftly accessed at institution, faculty, department and course level, thus allowing the university to see how individual departments perform in relation to others and which courses are providing the best and worst employment outcomes.
The site, currently delivered to 17 Colleges of the University of London and a further 17 institutions from around the UK, is continuously evolving its functionality and has practical benefits for senior management, academics, marketing departments and careers advisers.
Oliver Gardham, Head Of Graduate Research, The Careers Group said: “Using ‘Destinations Interactive’, reports which used to take days or even weeks to compile and distribute, now take seconds, and are available 24/7. This has proven ideal for staff wishing to access key data and performance statistics during the weekend or at home in preparation for board meetings and review groups.
“In just a few clicks our careers advisers can find the top employers of biology graduates or the top graduate-level jobs for history, a feature which allows them to give up-to-date, realistic information to those students and graduates wanting to know their options upon graduation.”
The THE Award will recognise and reward an institutional ICT initiative that has demonstrated an innovative, strategic and potentially far-reaching use of ICT in support of the goals of that institution.
The THE Awards ceremony, now in its 7th year, will take place in London on 24 November.
