University announces timetable for London Living Wage implementation

Phased introduction begins 1 October 2011

The University of London begins a phased introduction of the London Living Wage (LLW) on 1 October 2011 so that all its contract staff will be paid at least £8.30 per hour by July 2012.

Contract staff will receive four staged pay increases on the following dates: 1 October 2011, 1 January 2012, 1 April 2012 and 1 July 2012.

The arrangements, which will be paid for by the University, cover all contract staff employed by both Balfour Beatty Workplace and Aramark on contracts at locations of the University of London.

The University is working closely with the contractors and the unions over implementation.

All of the University’s directly employed staff are already paid above the LLW and also have access to a wide range of benefits which compare well with other London employers.
