School of Advanced Study

The School of Advanced Study is the UK’s national centre for the promotion and facilitation of research in the humanities and social sciences. The School brings together the specialised scholarship and resources of ten prestigious postgraduate research Institutes to offer a wide range of academic services, resources and opportunities for the benefit of individuals, organisations and communities interested in advanced study in the subject areas covered by the Institutes. 

The School comprises the following Member Institutes: Institute of Advanced Legal Studies; Institute of Classical Studies; Institute of Commonwealth Studies; Institute of English Studies; Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies; Institute of Historical Research; Institute of Musical Research; Institute of Philosophy; Institute for the Study of the Americas; Warburg Institute. The School also hosts a cross-disciplinary centre: the Human Rights Consortium.

The Institutes of the School collectively offer a wide range of academic and research services including specialist subject advice and expertise, academic and research skills training, digital research and study resources, short courses and summer schools, undertaking research and disseminating research findings, consultancy, academic publications and bookshop, networking and collaborations. The School also welcomes enquiries from those with an interest in collaborative or sponsorship opportunities across its wide range of research promotion and facilitation activities.
