Central University Functions and Activities

Academic and Academic Support Activities:

The School of Advanced Study , whose ten member-Institutes support and promote research and advanced study in the humanities.

University of London Research Library Services  (including the Senate House Library ), provides resources to support research to the highest international standards and to support undergraduate and postgraduate learning in a research environment.

University of London Computer Centre , established as a computing centre for the University of London, now provides national networking and data archiving services.

The University of London Institute in Paris  which engages in research and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Marine Biological Station at Millport  which provides for teaching and research in marine biology for the University of London and other UK Universities.

The University’s External System  (distance learning) which provides the opportunity for those who are not a student of a College or Institute to obtain degrees of the University.


Student Support Activities:

The Careers Group, University of London ,

Intercollegiate Halls of Residence , comprising eight Halls of Residence available to full-time students of the University and also providing vacation and conference accommodation.

University of London Housing Services , whose role is to support students and staff looking for or living in private sector accommodation.

University of London Students' Union  (ULU), represents and campaigns on behalf of the interests and views of students to the University authorities and outside bodies and supplements the facilities of individual College unions.


Administrative Activities:

A range of administrative departments support the central activities and cover academic matters, finance, human resources, secretariat/committee servicing functions, facilities management (including conferences and printing services) and estate administration.
