Welcome to UoL

Staff are encouraged to attend a Welcome to the University of London session. It is an opportunity to hear from senior managers, take a trip to the top of Senate House, discover in greater depth how the University works, and network with fellow colleagues (over lunch). Forthcoming dates are listed here.

You will be invited to this event by the Organisational & Staff Development team.

Information for Line Managers

Line Managers are responsible for successfully guiding their new member of staff through local induction. Induction Checklists below are not exhaustive however they do outline some required components of Induction, and some prompts for managers to help ensure that everyone’s induction will be tailored to them, their role and department.

The University advocates the use of a Local Induction Buddy. A Buddy provides informal guidance to the new starter of the department / service / team. Typical tasks assigned to a Buddy might include:

  • Explain how to gain entry/exit to the building
  • Pointing out catering or other facilities
  • Introducing the new starter to key people or contacts
  • Answer any day to day question about ‘how it works around here’
