Management on the Horizon

This programme is aimed at all staff (both Academic and Professional Support Staff) who either aspire to hold a management position in the future or who wish to explore the area of management for their personal development. It will enable participants to learn about various aspects of management as well as explore their own management strengths and management style.

The objectives of the programme will be:

  • to understand leadership styles and individual strengths;
  • to discuss and practise a range of communication styles;
  • to consider strategies that support and help get the best from individuals at work;
  • to gain an insight into how to develop effective teams;
  • to develop strategies to deal with challenging behaviour;
  • to use the learning from the programme to help inform and plan personal career development.

This is a 2-day programme run by LSHTM.

Day 1 will focus on: understanding yourself and the impact you have on others; considering your leadership style and other leadership models; communicating effectively; influencing and negotiation skills; managing your time and managing stress.

Day 2 will focus on: understanding and building successful teams; motivation and effective delegation – getting the best from people; managing performance and challenging behaviour; personal career development and planning.

This programme will include some pre-course work and set tasks between the two workshops. A Myers Briggs (MBTI) profile will be included as part of the programme.
