Edward Hartill, OBE

Edward Hartill was Surveyor for the City of London from 1985 until 2008. He had wide ranging responsibility for property and construction issues arising from the ownership of a significant portfolio of land and buildings in and around London. As a senior Chief Officer he was also involved in other aspects of the City of London Corporations varied responsibilities and activities.

The first part of his career was spent in the property departments of major insurance companies where he became a Head Office Manager.

Edward Hartill was a member of the University of London Council from 2004 to 2008. He was a Member and Vice-Chairman of the Estates Committee. He chaired the Project Board which successfully dealt with the refurbishment and extension of College Hall which is a major university hostel and is currently Chairman of the Senate House Project Board.

Since 2006 he has been deeply involved with Coram, the historic children’s charity and was appointed Chairman in June 2008.

He is a liveryman and Court Assistant of the Chartered Surveyors Company and was Master in 2003/2004.

He was a member of the Construction Industry Standing Conference which had responsibility for the creation of National and Scottish vocational qualifications and chaired the property services group. He was a founder member and Chairman of the Property Services National Training Organisation and chairman of Asset Skills which is currently the Sector Skills Council representing the property, housing, estate agency, and cleaning sectors of the economy.

From 1989 until 2004 Mr Hartill had many responsibilities at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He was President of the General Practice Division for the 1992/1993 session, Honorary Treasurer from 2004 until 2008 and for some time a Member of the Management Board.
