
Maxwell Hutchinson is an architect, writer and broadcaster. He was President of the Royal Institute of British Architects from 1989 to 1991. He was the Founder and is Life President of Article [25] (formerly Architects for Aid), an international charity.
He is currently a Director of SMC Group PLC. He was the Chairman of Hutchinson and Partners, Chartered Architects, from 1973 to 1992, and Chairman of the Permarock Group of Companies from 1984 to 1997.
He was Tyrone Professor of Architecture at Queen’s University Belfast from 1988 to 1992 and from 1992 to 1995 was Special Professor in Architectural Design at the University of Nottingham. He has also been a Visiting Professor at the University of Westminster and Visiting Lecturer at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.
He has been a member of the Court and Council of Loughborough University and a member of the Council of the Royal School of Church Music. He has received a number of honours including Doctor of Design from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen and was made an Honorary Fellow of UCL in 2008.
He is also a regular contributor to radio and television and has written several books including The Prince of Wales: Right or Wrong, an Architect Replies (1989), and Number 57: The History of a House (2003).
