Welcome to the Estates and Facilities Division of the University of London.

Martin Burchett is the Director of the Estates and Facilities Division.

The Estates & Facilities Division is responsible for all aspects of the operation, management, maintenance and development of the University of London estate. View a map of the estate  [PDF 1pg, 389KB].

The Division comprises the following sections:

Estate Management

The Estate Management  [PDF 14pg, 17KB] section manages the University Estate ensuring that the University's obligations as a landlord are fulfilled and that tenants abide by their obligations. It also deals with rating, valuation and strategic planning matters. 

Building Services

The Building Services Group  [PDF 1pg, 15KB] is responsible for the upkeep of the central University's estate and supports the Estate Management section in its role as Landlord. 

Estates Finance

The Estates Finance  [PDF 1pg, 27KB] section is responsible for the supervision of ordering and purchasing procedures and is involved in the preparation of budgets for building maintenance, construction projects, electricity, gas, fuel and water supplies, purchasing of materials and labour costs.  The section monitors expenditure to ensure it remains within budget.

Residences and Facilities

The Residences and Facilities [PDF 1pg, 14KB] section includes the following:

  • Halls Services
    The University of London has eight Intercollegiate Halls  of Residence providing over 3,000 places for full time students of the University.
  • Housing Services 
    Housing Services manages accommodation for both student and visiting academics: self-catering flats and houses for around 285 full-time and a small number of flats for visiting senior academics. Housing Services also provide information and advice to students in the private rental sector.
  • Facilities
    Responsibilities include catering, cleaning, conference facilities, front of house reception, office moves, post, print, security, car parking, and waste removal and recycling.
  • Conferences and Events
    This section deals with internal room bookings and bookings for external groups, for conferences, meetings and events, together with the organisation of all associated audio-visual and catering requirements.

Special Projects

The Special Projects  [PDF 1pg, KB] section was established to deal with the refurbishment of College Hall and the rewiring of Senate House.
