Social Sciences Trust Funds
We are the trustee of over 100 trust funds, used to support academic activities at our federation members, the School of Advanced Study and Senate House Library.
The trust funds were established following generous donations from supporters. Some are almost as old as the University itself, dating back to the 1850s, while many others have been created since 2000. Please find details of our Social Sciences Trust Funds below.

The Stamp Memorial Lecture was endowed in 1942 to commemorate the life of Josiah Charles Stamp, first Baron Stamp of Shortlands; a graduate and later governor of the London School of Economics and Political Science. The lecture has been traditionally hosted by the LSE, although the Trust Deed does not preclude the Stamp Memorial Lecture being held at another institution of the University of London. The LSE continues to host the Stamp Lecture each year.
The White Professorship is one of the oldest trust funds at the University of London. It was established in 1907 following Mr J. Martin White’s approach to the University about establishing a professorship in sociology for its advancement as an academic subject. Mr White was one of the leading figures in the foundation of the Sociological Society. In 1937 the way the trust was administered was altered and since then the income has been paid over to the London School of Economics and Political Science.
