Membership details
Current students and staff (including Emeritus Professors) at the Colleges and Institutions listed below are eligible for free membership of Senate House Library. Membership includes a book allowance of between 10 to 20 books and offsite access to eResources.
How to join
Complete the online registration form for your institute using your institute email address and follow the instructions in the email we send you to verify your membership. When your membership is complete, you can register for the Library web app for cardless access to the Library. You can also show your institute ID card at the membership desk during staffed hours to pick up a library card.

How to renew your membership
If you are an existing member and you would like to renew your membership, please complete the renewal form for your institute. You will need your Library membership number and your college email address. If you have collected a physical card, your membership number is below the barcode. If you do not know your membership number, please contact shl.membership@london.ac.uk

University of London students studying at a distance
Membership details
University of London students studying at a distance, either online or through one of our Recognised Teaching Centres (RTCs) worldwide, can join the Library free of charge. Membership includes a 10 book borrowing allowance, access to all reading rooms and study areas, and onsite access to Senate House Library's digital resources.
How to join
Complete the online pre-registration form and come to the Library membership desk during staffed hours and we can complete your membership. We will need to see current photographic ID along with proof of your enrolment with the University of London. We can accept any of the following as proof of enrolment:
- A University of London virtual ISIC student card (which must have the University of London logo in the top right-hand corner).
- The Welcome (or Welcome back) email you receive when you register on your Programme (received within the last 12 months).
- Current students can show on their device that they are able to successfully log on to the Student Portal.

How to join
To register, complete the School of Advanced Study registration form using your SAS email address. Follow the instructions in the email we send you to complete your membership. Log in to the Library catalogue with your name and membership number to give you instant access to Senate House Library's online resources.
On your first visit to Senate House Library, please bring your SAS or staff card to the membership desk (during staffed hours) where staff will link it to your Library account. The card can be used for borrowing from your institute library (where borrowing is permitted) and from Senate House Library. SAS fellows who do not have a SAS email address, can contact shl.membership@london.ac.uk. We will confirm your status with the relevant institute and arrange Library access. Please let us know which Institute you are affiliated to when you contact us.
Renewing your Library membership
If you are a continuing student or a staff member whose card has expired, please complete the School of Advanced Study renewal form. If your SAS card has been replaced with a new one, please bring both to the Senate House Library membership desk and staff will link your account with the new card.
