How to request a book that is currently out on loan.
- Search the catalogue for the item you want and click on the title. (If it is listed under “other sources” choose the “classic catalogue” option on the right hand side, click on the “request it” button.)
- You will be prompted to enter your name and user number. (Your user number is the number under the barcode on the front of your Library card).
- Once a reservation is placed on a book the current borrower will not be able to renew it again.
Please note that fines of more than £10 will prevent you from ordering items from the Stack Service or Off-site Store, reserving items or accessing the library’s electronic resources offsite.
- Click on the “request it” button.
- You will be prompted to enter your name and user number. (Your user number is the number under the barcode on the front of your Library card).
- The book will then be processed as soon as possible
You will be notified by email when the book is available or you may check by logging in to your Library account. The book will have the status “Ready. Must pick up by …..” Reserved books will be held for 8 days.
When you receive notification that an item you have reserved is available, just go to the Self-Service Hold-Shelf in the 4th floor Service Hall and find the book under your surname. You can then issue it to you account using the self-service machines.
Items ordered from the Stack Service and Offsite Store are kept behind the 4th floor Service Desk and must be collected from there. If you would rather collect all of your reserved books from the Service Desk, you can specify this when you place a reservation.
We encourage you to cancel any reservations you no longer require, for the benefit of the next person in the queue. If you wish to cancel a reservation, you may do so by logging into your Library account, click on requests, use the tick box to highlight the item(s) and then cancel. You can email senatehouselibrary@london.ac.uk, or ask staff at the Service Desk to cancel the reservation for you.
