Introduction to network security

MOOC

In this introductory course, you will develop an understanding of the design and security of computer communication, network technology, and the Internet. You will also develop an appreciation of some of the problems that arise in devising practical solutions to network security requirements.

Information security
Understand the design and security of computer communications and how to secure these from unauthorised access.

About this course

Computer networking provides the foundational connectivity services that are used for the world wide web, distributed computer applications and services, operations and manufacturing, and national infrastructure.

Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to discuss vulnerabilities and exploits that target computer networks and systems, and the internet infrastructure.

The topics we cover include:

  • Concepts of machine communication
  • Network layering
  • Message routing
  • Secure Channels.

By completing this course

You will be able to explain how computer networks work, why such networks are susceptible to security issues, and how communication can be performed in a secure way over untrusted networks.
