Information for employers

Learn more about the ways we work with employers to develop the employability of our students and recent graduates and connect them with opportunities both during and after their studies.

The University of London Careers Service is a dedicated careers and employability team based in London, United Kingdom.

We are uniquely placed to help employers like you to build a globally focussed, high quality talent pipeline offering a range of lived and work experience to bring to your organisation.

Our students and recent graduates

Our 46,000 students are based in 190 countries and bring with them a variety of lived and work experience, transdisciplinary perspectives and highly developed digital skills gained through distance learning.

Part of a truly global community, our students pursue their University of London degree with academic direction from federation members, including: Birkbeck, University of London, City, University of London, Goldsmiths, University of London, King's College London (KCL), London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL), London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and University College London (UCL).

Our unique student body is different to most cohorts at other university careers services, which are often primarily students at the very start of their careers. Our cohort has a significant range of experience, including students who have many years of experience in the international workplace. Whilst some are looking to launch their careers, others are ready for promotion, whilst others are looking to pivot their careers in a new direction. We define these three groups as Career Starters, Career Developers and Career Changers. This means our cohort are eligible for a range of global opportunities, from internships to graduate opportunities and experienced hire roles. We also offer our services to graduates for up to two years after graduation.

Online panel discussions

Sector Spotlights are 1-hour panel discussions that provide an opportunity for our students and recent graduates to learn more about the different careers paths available to them across a particular sector. Our panellists comprise University of London alumni, employers and other career professionals who can share their insights on emerging labour market trends and opportunities and talk about their career journey to date. These discussions also provide a

great platform to engage with and answer questions from students directly about the type of work you do in your organisation, how you entered your profession and raise awareness of opportunities.

Online workshops

We actively seek employers and alumni with an interest in supporting or co-delivering interactive online workshops with the University of London Career Service team. Unlike the online panel discussions, an online workshop is co-delivered with a member of our team and can focus on a specific aspect of your business. These online workshops can also be used to help prepare students for the different stages of the recruitment process in an engaging and interactive way. Whether you want to amend some of your existing content or co-design a new topic, our team is happy to work with you to produce a dynamic session which will raise awareness of your brand with our diverse student cohort.

Your insights, on demand

Many of our students are already in work, managing study alongside other commitments. This means they are not always able to attend live events.

This is why we work with organisations and individuals who want to share their insights through the creation of on-demand careers and employability content.

This can include curating short, on-demand content on an employability topic or trend of your choosing in a digital format (from ‘talking head’ video and audio notes to blog posts) or providing longer think pieces or case studies on contemporary topics in your sector.

We also seek inspiring speakers for our podcast Global Careers Calls which features in depth explorations of career stories and sector insights in conversation with a member of our Careers Consultant team.

Labour market intelligence

The global labour market is constantly changing. The University of London Careers Service captures labour market intelligence from a wide range of sources, and uses this to inform our students, graduates, and colleagues of the latest trends.

We are always interested to hear about your organisation, sector, or region. This can be about your hiring strategy, future of work initiatives or general information impacting on your sector. You can book a meeting with our Employer Engagement Team to discuss this via employers@london.ac.uk
