SOAS offers a truly global perspective

At SOAS, Africa, Asia and the Middle East provide the lens through which we interrogate the planetary questions of our time.

With our vast repository of knowledge and expertise on our specialist regions, SOAS is uniquely placed to inform and shape current thinking about the economic, political, cultural, security and religious challenges of our world.

SOAS, founded in 1916, offers world-class teaching in Law, Politics, Economics, Finance and Management, Development Studies, Languages and Cultures, History, the Arts and many other disciplines.

Whatever your chosen subject, you can deepen your study by focusing on one or more regions and every student is entitled to study one of their range of non-European languages.

Many graduates go on to further study but a large proportion go straight into employment, building careers as human rights lawyers, politicians, journalists, diplomats, ambassadors and scholars. SOAS was ranked 6th in the UK for employment outcomes in the 2023 QS World University rankings.

Alumni can join SOAS World, giving them free access to e-journals, invitations to exclusive events, and discounted SOAS Library membership – one of only five national research libraries in the UK.

SOAS leads the development of online and distance learning postgraduate programmes in finance, management, public policy, development and diplomacy.
