In June 2020, following the sudden disruption to the education industry caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of London Institute in Paris (ULIP), represented by Tim Gore, Goldsmiths, represented by Mark d’Iverno, and the University of London Centre for Distance Education, represented by Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper, quickly launched the first instalment of a series of talks between digital learning specialists, looking back at what has been rapidly achieved and what lay ahead of us.
The webinar series now continues at a monthly pace. ‘Experiences in Digital Learning’ aims at fostering discussions among academic professionals throughout a very special post-COVID-19 academic year.
In each one-hour session, we discuss a theme such as challenges for practice-based programmes, student engagement, inclusion and access, and others with a panel of 3 experts, moderated by Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper, Head of the Centre for Distance Education at the University of London Worldwide, and answer questions from the audience.

22 September 2022 - Extended reality and the future of education
Virtual reality (VR) is increasingly utilised in education and training and we see developments in the use of Augmented Reality (AR). Our panellists will illustrate the ways in which VR and AR are being used in an increasingly wide range of contexts. They will discuss the ways teaching and learning strategies are adapting to ensure learners, such as surgeons and engineers can gain highly valuable skills and competencies in simulated environments. This will be an opportunity for the panel and audience to consider the ways in which VR will impact future learning.

20 April 2023 - Supporting Student voice and student as partners in a blended environment
How, from a student perspective, can university education keep up with the evolving digital world? What are the opportunities and challenges of working with students as partners within an HE disciplinary context? Join the discussion with Eddie Plaskitt, President of ULIP Students' Union and Donna Smith, Senior Lecturer in Politics and Deputy Associate Dean Teaching and Students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (The Open University).

1 June 2023 - Understanding our evolving digital practice: Scholarship and research of teaching

Digital, online, and blended learning are increasingly part of the work that all educators engage with now, with face-to-face teaching augmented and extended through digital means. Developing your practice can be supported and enhanced through engagement with research and scholarship of teaching. This webinar will help to support approaches to scholarship and research of teaching. This will be an opportunity for the panel and audience to consider the ways in which our evolving digital practice can be reflected upon and informed by scholarship and research.

22 June 2023 - Sustainable approaches to managing technology for learning
The next Experiences in Digital Learning webinar takes place on Thursday 22 June 2023 14.00 – 15.00 BST. In this webinar, the sustainable approaches to managing technology for learning will be considered. The session will specifically consider the following questions: 1. how sustainable is the emotional labour and meta-work of online teaching? and 2. how green is my ed tech?
2 December 2021 - Academic freedom in a digitised world
While the free researching and expression of information and ideas, and the associated freedom to respond and to contest both of these are essential elements of a University’s mission, what do these freedoms mean when so much discourse is now in the public arena, messages pass through many hands and a rapid response is often privileged over a more considered reply? How can Universities help staff and students to engage, as they must, in academic freedom in this digitised world?
The webinar will be chaired by Centre for Distance Education Fellow, Dr David Baume.
3 March 2022 - The year ahead for the practitioner
The Covid-19 pandemic has rejuvenated debates around the use of learning technologies in the classroom (online or face-to-face) and resulted into the emergence of hybrid models and approaches that are predicted to permanently influence the way both distance and campus-based learning are carried out. This webinar explores what this means for the role of the teaching practitioner, beyond the immediate Covid-19 related confounding factors, examining the likely impact on their professional lives for the year ahead.

5 May 2022 - Hybrid experience and student well being
The pandemic continues to impact on the student experiences, and in particular the student learning experience. This may mean students engage online only, experience both online and separate face-to-face components of learning, or are in learning events in which there are both online and face-to-face participants in the same room (which we may term as a hybrid experience). There is the further complexity of synchronous and asynchronous learning and teaching. The session explores the impact of the diversity of experiences on student wellbeing.

9 June 2022 - The hybrid experience for the practitioner
The Covid-19 pandemic has reignited arguments about the use of learning tools and methodologies, which have an impact on how both distance and campus-based learning is conducted. It has also reignited discussions about the impact of various forms of teaching and diverse uses of learning tools on student experiences. This webinar will look at what these transitions mean for practitioners, how institutions are implementing these changes, and what we can learn from these trends in order to better understand how this will affect practitioners' professional lives in the future.

Long before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, there have been forecasts of the imminent disruption of higher education. Recently HE around the world rapidly adapted to an atomised world where physical interaction was no longer an option. Institutions, faculties, and their students managed to remain connected only digitally.
But what comes after this first wave of innovation and change? What can we learn about new ways of coordinated, experimental, social, creative and experiential forms of digital learning and teaching? How can we question traditional and online educational practices while making something new and lasting for a changing world?
