The French Department at ULIP is pleased to announce a new seminar series, FRICTION, which will explore the rub between disciplines and practices within the evolving sphere of French Studies.
Convened from the vantage of metropolitan France, this seminar is interested in what current research in French can offer and create. It plans to explore these possibilities particularly as they bristle and shape-shift between the implied literary frame that such a positioning might presuppose within French universities, and the pull towards interdisciplinarity and transnationalism that characterizes the Institute’s environment. Subtending cultural studies, urban history, creative writing, poetry, translation, and critical theory, we hope to foster the intellectual friction that diversity, decentring, and decanonization demands.
