Ten core modules

Cyber security foundations (CYM010)

This module introduces cyber security, why it is important, and the techniques and technologies that are used to achieve cyber security.

Security management and governance (CYM020)

This module introduces you to the fundamental concepts, tools and techniques for planning and managing the delivery of projects.

Cybercrime (CYM030)

In this module you’ll study the various components of cybercrime, a complex phenomenon which affects individuals, societies and nations.

Applied cryptography (CYM040)

This module introduces how cryptography provides digital security for everyday applications such as the internet, mobile phones and wireless networks.

Network and infrastructure security (CYM050)

In this module you’ll learn about network security and consider aspects of operational and critical infrastructure which are key elements in cyber security.

Computer systems security (CYM060)

In this module you’ll gain knowledge of operating systems and the associated security mechanisms which are an essential element in our infrastructure.

Software and application security (CYM070)

This module explores the key aspects of software and network/distributed applications and their development life cycle which are at the heart of our lives.

Security and behaviour change (CYM080)

In this module you’ll examine security perceptions and attitudes amongst individuals and groups to help you understand and change behaviour.

Information privacy (CYM090)

In this module you’ll study the challenge of maintaining personal data privacy, an issue which is of great importance to society.

Research methods for cyber security (CYM100)

This module explores cyber security research and will give you an understanding of how to approach research and select a project.

Project (MSc only)

Project (CYM500)

This module gives you the opportunity to undertake an individual cyber security dissertation project.
