Discover World Mental Health Day through the eyes of students at the London College of Legal Studies (South)

UoL Wellbeing Champion, Tahsin Noor Salim, uses journalling as a technique for supporting her own wellbeing and shares visual displays created by students at her teaching centre for World Mental Health Day.

At the London College of Legal Studies (South), one of Dhaka’s Recognised Teaching Centres , we have been focusing on prioritising mental health for World Mental Health Day 2024.

We strongly believe that a healthy mind is as vital as a healthy body, and we are dedicated to prioritising our students’ wellbeing at every step of their academic journey. With this in mind, we have been introducing students to the UoL Wellbeing Toolkit, which offers a variety of strategies for enhancing mental health. The toolkit emphasises the importance of practices such as staying active, building meaningful connections, setting personal goals, and practicing mindfulness, which we actively promote among our students.

Coming across some of my childhood diaries recently, I was reminded of how, even at six years old, I found comfort in writing down my fears. Years later, instead of scribbling with a pencil, I now type my reflections on a laptop, I find the therapeutic power of translating worries into words remains unchanged. I find that writing allows me to confront my anxieties and, in a way, helps them to fade. In my role as a supervisor and guidance counselor and as a UoL Wellbeing Champion, I encourage students to tap into this same therapeutic practice. I advise them to write down their thoughts and emotions as a means of processing their experiences and traversing challenges.

Recently, on the eve of World Mental Health Day, our students were asked to visually display ways of working towards their mental wellbeing in a poster.

A few of the posters are shared below:

At LCLS (South), we strongly believe that a healthy mind is as vital as a healthy body, and we are dedicated to prioritising our students’ wellbeing at every step of their academic journey.
