London Fashion Week 2024: A Celebration of Creativity and Style

Date

London Fashion Week 2024 marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 40th anniversary. University of London Venues was at the creative epicentre of the week’s festivities.

London Fashion Week 2024, held from 13-17 September, marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 40th anniversary. This year’s event was a vibrant showcase of creativity, class, and the rich cultural tapestry that defines London as a global fashion capital. The atmosphere was electric, with anticipation building for the unveiling of collections from both established designers and emerging talents.

University of London Venues was at the creative epicentre of the week’s festivities, with two unique and much-anticipated shows taking place across two vastly different spaces on the University of London estate: Crush Hall and Gordon Square Gardens.

Completedworks shines at Bloomsbury’s Gordon Square Gardens

Completedworks, a jewellery and ceramics brand known for its sustainable, sculptural and thought-provoking designs, took over Gordon Square Gardens with a barrage of mirrors, strings of pearls, and even an appearance from noughties’ supermodel Lily Cole. They staged a mesmerising three-act play titled 'A Stone is a Small Mountain' to present their latest collection, which touched upon themes including feminism, existentialism, and millennial ennui.

It was a glorious late-summer day in Gordon Square Gardens, and the atmosphere was akin to that of a traditional English tea party, with the front row a “who’s who” of the fashion journalism world. The Gardens were adorned with mirrors, offering unique angles and perspectives of the models, allowing the audience to fully appreciate the stunning collection from every viewpoint.

Novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza wrote a three-act play inspired by the French sculptor Camille Claudel. Actress Dianna Agron performed the role of Eliza, a biographer experiencing an internal conflict, while a violinist and model Lily Cole added depth to the narrative.

Gordon Square was an inspired choice from Completedworks, the greenery of its outside setting making the show stand out from others. Gena Leydon, project manager for the event, was pleased to work alongside our dedicated team to make sure the day went without a hitch:

‘The University of London were so helpful in the lead up to and throughout our event and the whole process was extremely smooth, Gordon Square Gardens was a really beautiful location and was perfect for the concept of our SS25 show.’

TOVE Studio's Unpretentious British Warmth in Crush Hall

TOVE's Spring/Summer 2025 collection, titled 'Unpretentious British Warmth', was a standout at London Fashion Week. The collection, designed by Camille Perry and Holly Wright, embraced a quiet luxury aesthetic with a focus on timeless elegance and natural materials.

This is the second time TOVE had used Crush Hall as its catwalk, and it’s easy to understand why, as the venue added a touch of glamour to the collection. Crush Hall, known for its grand architecture and historical significance, provided a stunning backdrop that complemented the collection's understated sophistication. The marble interiors and high ceilings of Crush Hall enhanced the visual appeal of the show, creating an atmosphere of refined elegance.

A vast runway was erected across the ground and first floors of Senate House, stretching down a flight of stairs designed in the finest marble by late architect Charles Holden. The venue's spacious layout allowed for an immersive experience, where attendees could appreciate the intricate details of the garments up close. The natural light flooding through the hall's large windows highlighted the delicate fabrics and craftsmanship of TOVE's designs, making the event a memorable highlight of London Fashion Week.

With its vast array of spaces, and central London location, Senate House has been a mainstay for high-end fashion brands for years now. If you are interested in booking one of our spaces for a show or similar event, please complete our enquiry form.
