Alumni celebration evening at Senate House
Event information>
On 6 March 2023, the University held a celebration at Senate House for the newest graduates of its distance and flexible learning programmes.
Following a daytime graduation ceremony at the Barbican Centre, the event was an opportunity for these new alumni to celebrate their achievements with family and friends in the beautiful setting of Senate House.
The evening began with a speech from Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Thomson CBE, who welcomed graduates and their guests, before sharing more about the University’s iconic headquarters and encouraging our new alumni to keep in touch.
Alumni had the chance to network with fellow graduates from their region of the world at global ‘hubs’, and to meet some of the academics and programme leaders who had supported them during their studies. They were also able to capture a memento of the evening at London-themed photobooths.
Guests also had the opportunity visit the ‘Gatsby Salon’ in Chancellor’s Hall, which featured an exhibition on F.Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, led by the School of Advanced Study (SAS). As part of the exhibition, Professor Sarah Churchwell, Director of Public Engagement at SAS, gave a short talk about jazz-age America in The Great Gatsby.
The event showcased the global nature of our community, with graduates and their families and friends attending from as far as Pakistan, South Africa and Singapore.
We warmly welcome our newest graduates to our thriving global alumni community.
