Camden and Islington Sustainability Awards

Date

We are delighted to announce that the University of London was recognised for its commitment to sustainability at this year’s Camden and Islington Sustainability Awards. The awards recognise businesses and community organisations who are leading the way on sustainability.

The awards highlight the great work being done across the whole university, by staff and students alike.

A winner and a ‘highly commended’ runner-up were chosen for each borough across eight different categories. At this year’s awards, the University of London was ‘Highly Commended’ for our Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction projects, along with our Engagement Initiatives.

Our 51% carbon reduction since 2010 could not have been achieved without a shift in behaviour from students and staff in reducing their energy consumption.

The Sustainability Team would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of staff, and students for their continued support, in particular, those in P&FM who have worked with us to implement new technologies and initiatives, along with our Sustainability Champions network and Accommodations Team, who have supported various behaviour-change projects across campus.

We now look forward to further developing our Zero Carbon Strategy, and reaching our goal of Net Zero Carbon by 2036. 2020 will see the launch of a new University Travel Plan, Master Plan and a relaunch of the Sustainability Champions Network.

We will also begin a University-wide engagement process, working closely with various departments and institutions to reduce their individual environmental impact and develop staff-led initiatives to become leaders in the HE sector.

Please contact sustainability@london.ac.uk for more information on our Sustainability Strategy, or with any questions or suggestions you may have.
