Cinérameuf podcast with Sabrina Bouarour

Date

Dr Sabrina Bouarour, Filmmaker and Lecturer in French Studies at the University of London Institute in Paris, recently took part in the French Deezer Originals podcast Cinérameuf by Alice Creusot.

Cinérameuf, a French Deezer Originals podcast by Alice Creusot, explores pop culture through a feminist lens with an invited researcher discussing  a classic film in each episode.

In the latest episode of the podcast entitled 'Les demoiselles de Rochefort et les demy-hommes', Dr Sabrina Bouarour examines masculinities and queerness in this French musical film paying tribute to Hollywood musicals.

She analyses the camp aesthetics of Jacques Demy's film and shows how it can attract both queer and straight audiences. She explores male performances and highlights the ambiguities of sailors as gay iconic figures by tracing their history in pop culture. Drawing upon queer theory and cultural studies, the podcast reveals how 'Les Demoiselles de Rochefort' deconstructs gender and queer relationships.

You can listen to this podcast delivered in French on Deezer.
