Empire State College honours CDE Fellow Alan Tait

Date

Alan Tait, who is Professor Emeritus of Distance Education and Development at The Open University U.K. as well as a Fellow of the Centre for Online and Distance Education at The University of London, has been awarded with a honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by The State University of New York’s  Empire State College.

Inviting Alan to accept this award, the State University of New York Chancellor Jim Malatras observed that while one of the greatest honours that the State University of New York can bestow is the honorary doctorate, it is an even greater honour for a college to be associated with an individual whose outstanding achievements merit this recognition.   Alan was nominated for this honour in recognition of his exemplary leadership for expanding higher education globally, and for his commitment to helping students and faculty to provide learner support in the development of curricula, programs and open institutions, thus enhancing educational opportunities for all.

The degree was conferred at SUNY Empire State College’s All College Conference, held virtually on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, where Alan delivered the Ernest Boyer memorial  lecture 2021 on the theme Empire State College at 50: Connections to the Open University.
