Launch of Virtual Reading Room service

Date

We recently launched our new Virtual Reading Room (VRR) service.

A librarian shares high-quality images in real-time with remote users

The service enables researchers to make online appointments to consult our Special Collections and Archives, no matter where they are based.

The Virtual Reading Room makes use of visualiser technology to share high-quality images in real-time with remote users. Appointments take place via video call and are facilitated by a staff member of our Special Collections Reading Room team. The service is free and open to all library members as well as external researchers.

This is an exciting new opportunity for the library to share its collections with researchers and students. It will allow its users to examine and explore our rare and unique items, and will make them more widely accessible, especially to communities that might not otherwise be able to visit in person.

We are planning to actively integrate the VRR equipment into teaching and research across the University of London, so researchers and students across the federation can benefit from this cutting-edge technology.

Virtual Reading Room appointments can be booked on the Library website.
