Learning and Teaching Innovation Prize winners announced
The Roger Mills award for Innovation in Learning and Teaching, named after one of the early members of the Centre for Online and Distance Education, Dr Roger Mills, is made annually by the University of London.
This year’s award winners were announced by Prof Mary Stiasny at the start of the 2021 RIDE conference.
The awards panel, comprising Prof Mary Stiasny, Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper, Dr David Baume and Professor Alan Tait, considered 4 strong nominations which meant it was a challenge to select just one winning project against the award criteria of innovation, value, impact, and transferability.
Although the panel found much to commend in the projects submitted from Royal Holloway University of London, Queen Mary University London and University College London. one project stood out, and this was the development of the Digital Skills Awareness courses, led by Sarah Sherman and Nancy Weitz, for the Bloomsbury Learning Exchange.
What is remarkable about the winning project are the ways in which transferability and impact were built into its very identity as a shareable Open Education Resource. The success of this approach and its value to the sector as a whole has been confirmed by the significant number of OER licenses issued by the Bloomsbury Learning Exchange to other institutions to use and adapt the Digital Skills Awareness courses for their own purposes.
