The University of London appoints Rita Akushie as Chief Financial Officer
Rita Akushie, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Corporate Resources at Cancer Research UK (CRUK) has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer at the University of London with effect from 28 October.
The University of London is one of the largest and most diverse universities in the UK. It is recognised globally as a world leader in higher education. At a time of opportunity and change under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wendy Thomson, the University is shaping a strategy that will redefine the modern university.

Mrs Akushie is a qualified accountant and also a qualified corporate treasurer. While her most recent experience is at CRUK, she has extensive experience in a variety of sectors and has previously led multi-functional teams through major financial and organisational change. She has held several non-executive positions, including Chair of the Audit Committee of The Beatson Institute and is currently a non-executive director of HICL Infrastructure PLC, a UK-listed infrastructure investment company.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Thomson said, “I am delighted to appoint Rita to this role. She will be a brilliant addition to the University’s leadership team which will deliver the new strategy and our COVID-19 recovery programme.”
