University of London hosts international Teaching Centre colleagues
On 12 July, the University of London welcomed more than 30 Recognised Teaching Centre (RTC) colleagues from 20 countries at the first Teaching Centres Symposium to take place since the pandemic.
Senate House provided the grand backdrop for this one-day event, which featured sessions on student feedback, fees, and assessments as well as interactive workshops led by the Centre for Online and Distance Education and The Careers Group.
The afternoon sessions provided an opportunity for teaching centre staff to meet with colleagues from a number of federation member institutions, including LSE, Royal Holloway, Goldsmiths, and UCL, and to chat with University of London Worldwide student-facing teams in face-to-face drop-in sessions. Representatives from Flywire and Inspera were also on hand to provide information and answer participants' queries about their systems.
Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper, director of the Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE), led a workshop on academic integrity, with participants expressing interest in digital proctoring and impacts on coursework. Based on positive feedback to this workshop, CODE will launch a series of follow-on workshops and a survey across the RTC network over the next year to provide support to our academic colleagues and students globally in developing and protecting academic integrity in this digital age of higher-level education.
The session led by The Careers Group was very well received, as was the announcement that dedicated staff would be added to work with RTCs on student employability.
The Symposium provided the perfect opportunity for business development discussions with our RTCs, especially those in Pakistan and India, who have declared a formal interest in adding campuses to their Recognised Teaching Centre status, along with new programmes. The Global Business Directorate met to begin planning for a Directorate tour of Pakistan and India in October. The group will work with RTCs in Delhi and Mumbai to discuss expansion plans with their institutions.
