University of London joins the Pride in London parade 2022

Date

2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Pride in London Parade and the University of London couldn't be more excited to join in and mark this milestone.

University is often the first place that young LGBTQ+ people find that they are able to be themselves and this is one of the reasons that we wanted to take part in the parade. We also want to show common purpose and commitment with other London universities where students experience similar life-enhancing experiences.

We wish everyone a happy Pride Month this June. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the original march in the UK, #AllOurPride is the campaign theme for 2022. On Saturday 2 July 2022, after a two-year gap due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Pride in London Parade returns to the streets of the capital with nearly 40,000 applications from all sections of the community and over 400 community groups. The parade pays homage to the 1972 march, passing significant sites from the UK’s first LGBT+ movement.

Join the parade on Saturday 2 July in Central London to celebrate LGBTQ+ life & show support for equality! The parade will begin at 12pm and we encourage staff and friends to come along. We will have a selfie-board as a fun way to engage with crowds so please feel free to get involved. We will also be proudly displaying the Philadelphia version of the Pride Rainbow flag with black & brown stripes added to visibly include BME people in our commitment to LGBT+ equality at both the parade and on top of Senate House.

Both Black Pride and Stonewall will be joining this year’s Pride in London Parade and we are also encouraging staff and students to attend the UK Black Pride 2022 in-person celebration of collective power that will take place on Sunday 14 August 2022.

We hope to see you at these events and wish everyone a safe and fabulous Pride month and weekend!
