In tribute to the late Queen, and as part of its Foundation Day celebrations, staff from the University of London got their hands and boots dirty this morning planting trees in several Bloomsbury parks.

Volunteers planted 18 dwarf plum trees – one for each member of the University of London Federation – in Woburn Square, Gordon Square and Torrington Square.

The Queen’s Green Canopy Project is part of this year’s Foundation Day celebrations and represents a unique initiative to celebrate Britain’s longest reigning monarch by enhancing our natural landscape for future generations.

The scheme, of which His Majesty The King is Patron, brings together a host of schools, communities, and other organisations across the United Kingdom, who collectively have planted more than one million saplings in The Queen’s name.

The project was due to conclude in 2022, at the end of the Platinum Jubilee year. However, following the wishes of His Majesty The King, it has been extended to March 2023 to give people the opportunity to plant trees in memoriam to honour Her Majesty.
