University of London takes part in Pride Month

Blog information>

Mark Piggott

June is Pride Month, and the University of London will be celebrating this great event and showing solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community – including members of students, staff and supporters.

University can often be the first place that LGBTQ+ people find they are able to explore who they are and bring their whole self to campus. For this reason, the University of London is a keen supporter of Pride Month. We also want to show solidarity, purpose and commitment with our Federation Members and wider London community where students from across the world will celebrate Pride in London and the LGBTQ+ equality. Keep an eye on social media during June as we share our activities to raise awareness.

On Saturday 29 June, the Pride in London Parade returns to the streets of the capital with nearly 40,000 applications from all sections of the community and over 400 community groups. Support the parade to celebrate LGBTQ+ inclusion and help champion LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion! The parade begins at 12pm and we encourage staff, students and friends to come along. We have new Pride merchandise and brand-new Pride floats which will be revealed on the day of the parade.

We will be proudly displaying the Pride Progress Flag with to reflect LGBTQ+ people of colour and trans and non-binary community, to reflect our commitment to LGBTQ+ equality at both the parade and on top of Senate House.

We recognise that participating in Pride month means doing the hard work. The University of London, whilst founded on the principles of equality and access, have an ambitious equality and inclusion vision and objectives that we are working towards achieving. We are committed “to continue to build on the founding ideals of inclusivity, diversity and collaboration of the University of London and to champion inclusive cultures, structures and journeys to enable our collective expertise and strengthen our connections and collaborations nationally and worldwide.” Information on our equality and inclusion work, including what we did in the last year during Pride, can be found here (

All staff and students from our member institutions are welcome! Please register to be part of the parade, the online registration closes at 17:00 on Friday 14 June. Tickets are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, after which, we will have a waitlist for those unable to secure a ticket. If you are unable to secure a ticket, you are always welcome to join the fun on the day as a spectator too!
