Vice Chancellor confers degrees at Institute of Cancer Research awards ceremony
A new generation of cancer researchers took to the stage at the Guildhall on Tuesday 19 March as federation member The Institute of Cancer Research held its annual awards ceremony.
Vice-Chancellor Wendy Thomson CBE conferred degrees and congratulated the Institute's PhD, MPhil, and MD(Res) graduates, all of whom have conducted research that has contributed new knowledge in their chosen discipline. She also celebrated the success of those graduating from the MSc-level taught course in Oncology.
During the ceremony Professor Thomson also presented the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Medicine) to Professor Sir Bruce Ponder FMedSci, FAACR, FRS and Lola Manterola, President of the CRIS Cancer Foundation.
The award ceremony is a highlight of the ICR’s calendar each year, marking one of its core strategic goals to invest in the future of cancer research by educating and training the next generation of cancer scientists and clinicians.
