Vice-Chancellor opens new student suite at British University Vietnam
The Vice-Chancellor visited Vietnam to meet with key partners and to open a new University of London Suite at BUV.
Professor Wendy Thomson CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, officially opened a new University of London Suite at the Ecopark campus of British University Vietnam (BUV) during her visit to Vietnam last week.
The suite opening ceremony was part of the formal inauguration of Phase 2 of our International Partner BUV's Ecopark campus in Hanoi. During her visit to the campus, Professor Thomson also met with students currently studying University of London programmes at BUV.
Speaking at the Ecopark, Professor Thomson said: "We recognise, and share, Vietnam's belief in the role of education in strengthening economic growth and improving the lives of people around the world. The University of London was founded in 1836 under the ethos that education should be accessible to all, regardless of background. Today, we maintain that commitment on a global scale, with over 40,000 students studying our programmes in more than 190 countries.
"As Vietnam continues its impressive journey, the University of London stands ready as a committed partner. We believe in Vietnam's future, we believe in the talent of its people and we believe that through education, we can help realise the full potential of this dynamic nation."
Professor Thomson's two-day visit also included engagements in Ho Chi Minh City, where she gave a welcome address at the Centre for Foreign Affairs and Languages Training before holding meetings with senior government officials and prominent business leaders from British corporations, with a focus on educational collaboration and Vietnam's development of financial and technological sectors.
The partnership between the University of London and British University Vietnam, which dates back to 2009, has seen a number of academic achievements, with students achieving World Topper status in Mathematics, Statistics and Economics during the previous academic year.
Professor Thomson's visit included meetings with the British Ambassador in Hanoi and the British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, reflecting the University of London's long-term commitment to educational partnerships in Vietnam and its support for the country's development priorities.
