Warburg Institute receives a £100k donation from Mark Storey

Mark Storey is the founder of Alcuin Capital, a member of the University of London’s Board of Trustees, and a long-time supporter of several institutes in the School of Advanced Study. A University of Oxford history graduate with an MA from Birkbeck, University of London, Mark has maintained strong academic and cultural interests in the areas of books, history and libraries.

The University is extremely grateful to Mark for his generous donation, and leadership shown, in support of the Warburg Institute. The donation will be directed to the priority projects of the Warburg Institute - most immediately the Warburg Renaissance project - a £14.5m investment in the transformation of the Institute, with the University of London making a commitment of £9.5m and an additional £5m secured by philanthropic support.

The Warburg Renaissance will transform the Warburg Institute by restoring its original vision and making it ready for future generations. The project will enhance the Institute’s academic resources, teaching facilities and public offerings, and create new facilities for special collections, exhibitions, and events.

The Institute has now secured almost all of the funding needed to proceed with the Warburg Renaissance project, and has started to garner support for the people, programmes and collections that will keep the Warburg secure, vibrant and visible. After an enforced hiatus in 2020 due to COVID-19, building work is scheduled to begin in spring 2022.
