Coca-Cola Sri Lanka: on business placement with a global brand
Luqman Mowlana shares his experience of being on business placement with Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Limited, and how studying the BSc in Business and Management is preparing him for success.
My experience working for Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Limited, one of the most renowned companies in the world, has been fulfilling and memorable. When I started the job, I assumed working for one of the top three beverages companies in the world would be challenging and perhaps overwhelming for a student. However, due to the company’s support structure and professional management approach, it was an enjoyable, albeit challenging environment.
The best part about working for The Coca-Cola Company was being a part of The Coca-Cola Family. It is a household beverage brand and the term ‘Coca-Cola’ is the second most understood term in the world. Being able to be a part of such a recognisable organisation and culture was the best part of my experience. Coca-Cola is a multinational corporation which is accepting of all cultures and does not discriminate against anyone, which makes it suitable for anyone looking to be a part of the Coca-Cola Family.
I am currently reading for my BSc in Business and Management, which has helped me tremendously in understanding the theoretical aspects of business and their application in the working environment. As a Compliance Auditor, I am not restricted to the financial aspect of the company, but rather involved in many other aspects of the company, including sales and marketing to name a few.
Studying the BSc in Business and Management has helped me better understand the multiple aspects of the operation in order to effectively conduct my audits. This is due to the fact that the courses chosen and provided by the University of London are both relevant and effective in today’s business environment. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to build their overall knowledge of the business world.
I plan on continuing at Coca-Cola and pursuing a career within the company after graduating.
I would like to thank the University of London for assisting me in gaining this employment at Coca-Cola, which has been and continues to be a wonderful experience.
One final thought about the University of London’s Business Placement scheme; if you are eligible and invited to apply, I would highly recommend doing so if you are looking to gain work experience while completing the degree. The University will assist you in all aspects, from getting interviews to providing assistance in order to prepare for the interview.
Luqman is studying the BSc in Business and Management via distance learning in Sri Lanka.
