Staff and faculty members from Singapore and the UK joined students and alumni in person to celebrate academic success.

SIM-University of London Achievers’ Event (November 2022)

The annual SIM-University of London Achievers’ Event was held on 5 November 2022 at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), celebrating the wonderful academic achievements of our SIM-UoL students.

Over 100 staff and faculty members from Singapore and the UK, along with students and alumni, came together to celebrate our students’ accomplishments for 2022 after two years of hosting the event online.

Joining us from the UK were the Programme Directors from LSE and Goldsmiths, Ms Elizabeth Aitken and Dr Maggie Cooper. The University of London’s Director of Development, Mr Bill Abraham, was back in Singapore for the third time this year and, finally, on his maiden trip to sunny Singapore was Mr Oliver Trumble, Head of Programme Development at the LSE for UoL Programmes.

Professor Wei Kwok Kee, the SIM Provost, opened the event by expressing how pleased he was that we could celebrate this occasion in person. He delivered his heartiest congratulations to all our Achievers on their successes – 133 First Class Honours, 35 Prizes, 82 Commendations, and 35 Toppers. His joys were echoed by Professor Mary Stiasny, UoL Pro Vice-Chancellor (International, Teaching and Learning), who sent her best wishes and warm greetings via a video message.

From our Achievers, a special shout-out to Kazel Lim, who made a mark for herself as the Top Student Worldwide for the International Foundation Programme in 2022. She also scored the highest grades for two modules – Economics, and Accounting and Finance. For her excellent performance, Kazel will receive £600 from UoL.

Our Computing and Information Systems Achievers have not been resting on their laurels either, as Bryan Ng was at the SIM-UoL Achievers’ Event for the second time. In 2021, he topped the world in two courses. This year, in addition to receiving the Award for Academic Achievement, Bryan scored the highest grade for Data Communication and Enterprise Networking. We are proud of his achievements, which will surely be an inspiration to his fellow students.

Zooming in on the EMFSS programmes, Geetha Thayalan from the BSc in Business and Management programme received special mention as she is a prize winner and a topper for Managerial Economics. All recipients of the EMFSS Award for Academic Achievement will receive £250 from UoL.

Although the focus was on the undergraduate academic achievers, we were delighted to have a few postgraduate students attending the event too – at least three from the MSc in Professional Accountancy and the Postgraduate Certificate in Data Science joined in the celebration.

Before wrapping up, we took time to honour our lecturers and the biggest group of Achievers – our First Class Honours recipients. It has been particularly challenging during the last two years and we are so proud of them – they did it!

The Achievers’ Event is a wonderful platform for us to congratulate our students who have received the top classifications for their programmes or who have been recognized by UoL as being among the top in their programmes and courses. For SIM, the pleasure is ours to host this annual celebration and to give a shout-out to our students.
