Date

Get ready for the best jobs for the future and help plug the IT skills gap, with an online course into tech for beginners and more

As new technologies continue to emerge and grow at a dizzying pace, there’s never been a better time to learn vital computer science skills.

Roles like data analyst or web developer are in high demand, with employers struggling to recruit talent with the expertise they need. Here in the United Kingdom, the digital skills gap is costing the British economy a staggering £63 billion according to official figures published in 2024.

“Students of computer science have many opportunities open to them on graduation from the programme,” explains Dr Etain Casey, who runs our International Foundation Programme (IFP) for Computer Science.

“You may be helping to solve environmental problems, working in finance or government,” says the Programme Director.

You may be working in design, programming or you may be starting your own business, but before you achieve this future success you need some firm foundation skills to help you along the way.

A steppingstone to our BSc Computer science

That’s where our IFP for Computer Science comes in. It guarantees a place to all graduates on our prestigious BSc Computer Science and covers areas like the widely used coding language Python, mathematics, how to interpret and summarise data and much more.

The IFP is a gateway to a degree in the field and it gives students all the essential skills and expertise they need to progress.

Dr Casey explains, “On this course, we will provide these skills, mathematics, statistics, including data visualisation, programming with Python, and academic skills and these could include critical thinking, critical analysis to help you with your expression.

“This is an online course, and you can learn at your own speed, at your own pace and you’ll be supported all the way along by programme tutors. You’ll also have the opportunity to interact with your fellow classmates in online forums.”

The programme can be completed in as little as six months, or up to three years, with lecture videos, live sessions, and group feedback sessions all accessible online.

So, take the chance to use these building blocks and these steppingstones in order to invest in yourselves and in your future career and join this important course.
