How psychology changed the way I see myself and others
Alumna Iris, from Finland, reflects on an eye-opening experience studying the BSc in Psychology – and getting to study in three European capitals.
When Iris began her BSc in Psychology, she didn’t expect just how much it would resonate with her day-to-day life.
“The most surprising thing I learned was probably how much of psychology you can actually apply in real life.
“I kind of figured that would be the case, but I didn't grasp the depth of it. I feel like studying psychology has definitely helped me understand other people and situations, my everyday life, and also just to understand myself better – what I want to be and what I want to do in my life,” she explains.
The BSc in Psychology is academically directed by King’s College London, a world-renowned institution ranked ninth globally for psychology in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025.
King’s boasts Europe’s largest academic community dedicated to understanding and addressing mental health challenges, offering a cutting-edge and real-world focused curriculum.
The programme integrates theory with practical application, covering areas such as healthcare, social care, education and law. Students like Iris graduate with a strong foundation in human behaviour, cognitive processes, and the role of psychological science in tackling global social issues.
Iris studied at Forward College, a Recognised Teaching Centre that offers the programme across three major European cities – Lisbon, Berlin, and Paris – over the course of three years.
“My favourite thing about studying was probably meeting all these international people, and travelling with the same people for three years,” she recalls.
Going forward, she is excited to start a new chapter in her life and hopes to build skills in organisational psychology or social psychology.
Her words to prospective students?
I would recommend a University of London degree. If I could give one piece of advice: just apply.
“Be brave. If you feel like you want to do it, then go for it, because, for example, studying in three different countries three years could be very intimidating, but there will be people to help you and it's definitely worth it.”
Start making sense of human behaviour.
Like Iris, you can gain the skills and expertise you need to delve into the human mind and take a scientific approach to what makes us tick.
