Landing a corporate internship during my undergraduate law degree

Date

LLB student Noor is gaining the skills she needs to realise her dreams. Hear from her and three fellow students on their experience of studying law with the University of London, online or at a local teaching centre.

In a highly competitive field like law, gaining relevant experience is vital to impress hiring managers at top firms after graduation.

When Noor Ul Huda Memon landed a prestigious legal internship during her undergraduate law degree, she was keen to make the most of it. It was a chance for the University of London Student Ambassador to build her confidence and gain valuable insight into the corporate world.

That’s why she was thrilled that she could draw from skills she’d already gained during her LLB, such as critical thinking and analysing complex information: "The programme’s structure has also helped me understand how global legal principles can align with local practices, preparing me for the challenges of corporate legal work," she says.

It's this blend of academic knowledge and practical application that has given me the confidence to achieve my future goals and make a meaningful impact in the legal profession.

A rigorous degree without leaving the country

The LLB can be completed in three to six years, allowing students to study at their own pace. Whether you choose to study independently or – like Noor – enrol at a Recognised Teaching Centre for face-to-face support, the programme is designed to fit around your life.

Based in Pakistan, she has benefited from the flexibility of distance learning and a curriculum developed to a high standard by academics from six outstanding University of London law schools.

And thanks to the classroom supports she receives at one of our many Recognised Teaching Centres around the world, she also reaps the benefits of an on-campus degree.

Studying the University of London’s LLB programme has been a defining experience for me.

"Balancing a rigorous curriculum while staying in Pakistan has taught me discipline, time management, the ability to work independently, and skills that are crucial for a future in law," says Noor.

'Presidents, prime ministers and judges have walked this path'

For Mathew Egu, an online LLB student based in Nigeria, a strong draw has been the name recognition of the programme, which he hopes will help boost his employability.

"Its historical antecedents as a 'Gold Standard' in law that is well sought after by top law firms and Fortune 500 companies worldwide give me the confidence to pursue my career aspirations – with positive considerations of a successful outcome," he says.

"Besides, the rigorous curriculum and access to top-notch faculty have equipped me with nuanced theoretical knowledge and well-sought-after practical skills that are essential for the fast-paced and changing legal landscape."

Mathew is also a University of London Student Ambassador – a role he says has helped bolster his confidence.

"That said, engaging in real-world projects, and participating in academic citizenship activities as a student ambassador has bolstered my confidence – because I always have it at the back of my mind, with conviction, that great minds and leaders such as presidents, prime ministers and judges have walked this path," he says.

'Highly prestigious and widely respected'

Sharveen Raaj Ravindran is a Student Ambassador based in Malaysia. Like Mathew, he was drawn to the programme by the University of London’s global reputation:

“The LLB degree from the University of London is highly prestigious and widely respected in Malaysia, making it an excellent foundation for my legal career,” he says.

And for Sharveen, who studies with a Recognised Teaching Centre, the assessment method is a perfect fit:

“One of the unique aspects of the programme is that it is 100% exam-based, allowing me to focus entirely on mastering the law without the added pressure of coursework, assignments, or presentations.

This approach aligns with my learning style and helps me manage my studies effectively.

‘Exceptional’ course content and preparatory materials

For Kristy R., another Student Ambassador on the programme, one of the key benefits has been the structure of the course.

She benefits from a wealth of learning materials through the Virtual Learning Environment, including audio lectures, module guides, and past exam papers. The Online Library provides access to millions of academic publications and professional legal databases.

"I believe this programme, and the way that it is structured, as well as the way the modules are developed and taught; in terms of content and preparatory materials are exceptional," she says.

Kristy is enrolled at a teaching centre in Trinidad and Tobago, where she lives – and she enjoys the flexible pace which allows her to manage her workload to fit her needs.

I can sum up my experience with this programme by saying; that the LLB programme helps you build the bridge between justice and your dreams!
