Dr Ashley Cox

Associate Director of the Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE)

Ashley began with his award of the online tutor fellowship during his PhD where he acted as senior tutor for the programme. Since 2014 he has been working on the Global Diplomacy Programme at both the SOAS and the University of London, where he is a Lecturer in Diplomacy and Public Policy and Global Diplomacy programme director.

Ashley is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, A Code Fellow and a Member of the British International Studies Association and Transatlantic Studies Association.

He completed his PhD at the University of Leicester on the topic of  Wilsonianism in American foreign relations and is the author of Wilsonian Approaches to American Conflicts: From the War of 1812 to the First Gulf War. His current research interests are in the Areas of American foreign, defence and diplomatic policy.

Ashley has been a proponent of online learning approaches throughout his time involved in University teaching. He has been researching areas of building overlapping online learning communities to aid in student support and progression. Also been active in the BISA learning and teaching group and has given presentations on the role these communities play in supporting online learning.

Ashley has worked to develop the role of experiential learning. So that students of diplomacy and international relations can engage with the organisations which they study and speak directly with practitioners.
