Dr Michele Milner
Director of Learning and Wellbeing at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London
Michele is the Director of Learning and Wellbeing at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, where she leads a directorate providing academic enhancement and student support services, that aim to create flexible and inclusive learning opportunities and experiences to foster holistic wellbeing for the RVC community.
Dr Michele Milner’s career includes working as a teacher trainer in Southeast Asian university settings and with the Korean National commission of UNESCO supporting peace education as a pedagogical approach to the Millennium Development Goals. Michele established the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at the University of East London and led on strategic projects on competency-based learning and one-device Mobile Learning.
At RVC she has developed the blended learning strategy as a means of introducing flexible elements into the curriculum and to help students to develop self-management skills. She has led on approaches to support student success with blended learning including the development of an online pre-arrival induction as part of an extended induction programme that helps students become aware of the importance of emotional flexibility to thrive at university. She has also led on the development of blended approaches to student services in order to modernise how services are delivered and to be able to develop sources of student data that can be used to support positive interventions. Michele’s academic background is as a linguist and she has written about issues of language, gender and power in the media.
