Dr Oscar Mwaanga

Programme Director for the Post Graduate Certificate in International Sports Management at the University of London Worldwide

Dr. Oscar Mwaanga is the Programme Director for the Post Graduate Certificate in International Sports Management at the University of London Worldwide.

His interest is in the development and delivery of industry focussed online and distance  sports education programmes. Oscar also takes particular scholarly and practitioner interest in decolonisation of Higher Education and the decolonisation of sport for sustainable development field.

Oscar co-founded Education through Movement (EduMove) Limited (UK), Education through Sport (EduSport) Foundation (Zambia) and the Zambian Institute of Sport. He is also visiting scholar, consultant and fellow at a number of global institutions including the African Union, University of Tsukuba (Japan), World Academy of Sport (Australia), University of Zambia, Pan African University (Nigeria) and Commonwealth Sport for Development and Peace (SDP).

His recent research and advocacy work focuses two related areas. The first is the decolonisation of online and distance learning curricula and pedagogies. This includes investigating alternative pedagogies such as such Ubuntu pedagogy as an alternative to hegemonic western pedagogies. To this end, he is a recipient of a teaching and research award from the CDE, investigating the decolonisation of the University of London Worldwide online and distance learning curricula and pedagogies. He also chairs the Decolonisation work group of the University of London Worldwide.

His second area of research and advocacy interest is  Physically Active Education (PAE). PAE is an Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) innovative pedagogy that promotes cross-curricula teaching of school subjects through movement games and activities in order to simultaneously promote learning and health via increase physical activity in school children.
