Professor Steven Warburton

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education Innovation) at the University of Newcastle, Australia

Steven has held senior positions at leading institutions in the UK, New Zealand and now in Australia. He currently works at the University of Newcastle, NSW - an established institution with a strong regional profile, industry partnerships, research and with a large diverse student population. His achievements have focussed on digital transformation and the strategic deployment of technologies to enhance learning and teaching, including major projects in online assessment, curriculum and learning management system implementation.

As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education Innovation) at the University of Newcastle he leads a large department covering the core functions of digital education, academic quality, curriculum management and academic development.

He has published widely in the area of technology enhanced learning and is a passionate advocate for design thinking and the use of pattern languages in human-centred design and problem solving. Recently he has co-chaired ASCILITE, the premier Southern Hemisphere educational technology conference, for two consecutive years. He is internationally recognised as the President of CAULLT the peak Australasian professional body for leaders in learning and teaching. As both a scholar and leader, his career reflects a personal commitment to the value of education as a positive force for change, enhancing social, human, and economic capital in often challenging global settings.
