LUMEN: London Universities' Knowledge Mobilisers Engagement Network
A network for knowledge mobilisers across the capital.
Why we've launched LUMEN
The term ‘knowledge mobiliser’ can be hard to explain, especially if you work outside of higher education in a policy making role. After speaking to multiple teams and professionals who work in this space across London’s universities, we understand it to mean anyone in a research and/or policy role who is amplifying the research capabilities of their institution.
Building bridges for policy impact
London is a global hub for education and research, with numerous universities driving advancements in many disciplines. Knowledge exchange professionals play a key role in translating research into practical applications and fostering industry partnerships, but they often work in isolation.
Through LUMEN, we aim to share how knowledge mobilisers are working with decision makers across London government and in communities. What’s working well, what can be shared, where can improvements be made and how efforts can be better organised through a network of peers.
We are committed to improving conversations between London policymakers and researchers, fostering deeper partnerships for regional collaboration within London and beyond, integrating with local government and councils. We hope LUMEN will support you as knowledge mobilisers, spotlighting the personal stories of how people arrived in this space and their everyday motivations within an exciting and often challenging policy ecosystem.
Where do we go from here, together
LUMEN is open to anyone interested in enhancing knowledge exchange, driving innovation, and fostering economic and social growth. Join us in unlocking the full potential of London’s universities through collaboration and impact.

The CAPE Compass: Navigating Public Policy Engagement Together
Our next network event will be hosted alongside Capabilities in Academic Policy Engagement (CAPE), who are a consortium of 5 universities and 4 policy partners working to bridge the gap between universities and policy. This session will seek to explore some of the requests fielded by knowledge mobilisers in their roles, using personas and CAPE's existing resources, to encourage attendees to troubleshoot in real time.
