Going Beyond Google

Using a sample search topic, this session will provide explanation and demonstration of resources found via Google and Senate House Library’s online resources. Resources demonstrated will include Google, Google Scholar, Encore (Senate House Library’s online search system), and a selection of representative academic databases. Comparisons will be made between the differing sets of results. An optional interactive element at the end of the session will allow you to practice searching.

Aims

  • To introduce students and researchers to online research

  • To provide advice on how to make best use of what Google has to offer to support academic research

  • To provide guidance on how to develop deeper research techniques using library electronic resources

This session is part of our Research Support services. For guides, workshops and more information, go to our Research Support page.
