Weather Notes

The new exhibition 'Weather Notes' of historical items chosen from Senate House Library’s collections offers a glimpse into different perceptions, recordings, and observations regarding the weather over the past 500 years.

You can view all the items on display in our online gallery.

The exhibition was organised as part of A Thousand Words for Weather, a specially commissioned sound installation presented by Artangel and Senate House Library that probed the connection between the environment, language, translation, sound and silence. The sound stallation ran from 22 June 2022 - 25 March 2023 and is now closed. To find out more about the project visit the Artangel website.

Contribute to our Collective Weather Diary

During the nine month run of the exhibition we are encouraging visitors to contribute to a growing collective weather diary.

Looking out of the window, how is the weather right now? How does it make you feel? Do you remember a time when the weather played an important role in your life?
